This practical degree encourages you to develop an extensive knowledge of computer programming using Java and Python. A range of projects will also help you build practical experience in designing, building and implementing computer systems, culminating in a major final-year software development project.

We believe it is important that you enter the world of work with a range of skills that enable you to succeed, and actively focus on enhancing your employability throughout the degree. You will be supported to gain work experience throughout your degree, and recent students have worked with a wide range of companies including large organisations such as the NHS, General Dynamics, Qinetiq, Garmin, Rackspace, the Met Office, Ordnance Survey and Capita and many more local SMEs such as CleverTouch, Transactor Global Solutions, Zentive, Westermo and MWR Security.

GCSE Maths and English at grades A-C, or equivalent are required for entry. Functional Skills Level 2, is accepted as equivalent. This can be exempted by successfully passing the QAHE English test (minimum 60%) and the QAHE Maths test (score 8 out of 15). For each level, we offer non-standard entry routes for students. Application Developer

Applications developers translate software requirements into workable programming code and maintain and develop programs for use in business.

Web Designer

Web designers plan, create and code web pages, using both technical and non-technical skills to produce websites that fit their customer’s requirements.

Cyber security analysts

Cyber security analysts help to protect an organisation by employing a range of technologies and processes to prevent, detect and manage cyber threats.

Game Designer

As a game designer, you’ll be the centre of creativity at the heart of producing a new game. You’ll bring ideas, build prototypes, create interactive narration and develop the game’s mechanics

IT Consultant

Your role as an IT consultant will be to work in partnership with clients, advising them how to use information technology in order to meet their business objectives or overcome problems.
